To NYC And Back – Brett Fallon’s Journeys
By Rob Taylor
Back in October a young Erie dancer named Brett Fallon had one of his dreams answered when he received an email from the producers of TV’s “Live To Dance,” that he was one of those chosen to audition and perform before Paula Abdul.
“I heard about “Live To Dance” from a friend of mine who was visiting from New York,” Fallon said. “I called my manager and asked if I should do it. She approved so I sent in an audition tape and resume and I was eventually chosen.”
While he was waiting to hear back from the shows producers, Fallon started performing in a musical called “The Rat Pack” at The Station Dinner Theatre. “I got the notice on a Tuesday,” Fallon said. The notice told him that he had to be in New York on that Saturday...four days later. The thing was…he was performing in "The Rat Pack."
“I was backstage at the Friday show calling everyone trying to get a plane, bus or train but I didn’t have much luck,” he said. Finally, his manager got him a ticket on Greyhound. He left in the middle of the show, with the producer’s blessings, caught the bus and he was on his way.
“I made it to New York just in time to run the ten blocks to the studio,” he said. He made it through four rounds but, because of time constraints on the show, he will not be shown on the broadcasts of the show. He quickly added that he was treated like royalty when he was there. “Even after I was eliminated they treated me with complete respect.”
He said that the show was a great experience and it showed what dancing can be, when it is done well and the people who run the show know dancing themselves. However, he is happy to be home and he started working on a new project that opens at The Station Dinner Theatre this Sunday.
Called “All That Jazz And More,” Fallon said that it will feature all of the arts…not just dance! “We’re going to bring fine arts such as jewelry making, painting and photography to the stage with music, dance and a few other artistic techniques and styles.” One style being displayed is Kinetic Typography which is the technical name for "moving text"—is an animation technique mixing motion and text. This text is presented over time in a manner intended to convey or evoke a particular idea or emotion. It is often studied in Communication Design and Interaction Design courses. Some commonly seen examples of this technique include movie title sequences and credits, web page animation and other entertainment media.
The Kinetic Typography will be displayed on a screen at the back of the stage, backlighting dancers, including dancers from Erie’s Boys & Girls Clubs who will be performing across the stage.
For more information about the show please call The Station Dinner Theatre 814-864-2022 or Brett Fallon at 814-490-8781.

The Movement
"Feel the mssion in motion ..."
Is there anything that cannot be accomplished through the art of dance? Well, if you ask Brett Fallon, Founding Artistic Director of Dance Elite* Performance Company .... he will answer with a reso...unding 'No." That's because his extensive experience as a performer has taught him that music and dance can be powerful enough to break through any boundaries. The company's newest project, appropriately dubbed The Movement, seeks to do just that by reaching beyond the dance and touching the human spirit.
Through The Movement, the company strives to spread God's uplifting message by utilizing the art of music and dance as a catalyst for positive change in people's lives. Fallon intends to perform at churches, retreats, large music festivals, fairs, and any other venues where a receptive audience exists to share his passion with. He believes that the motions and expressions conveyed through dance possess the potential to stimulate spiritual change and growth. Dance has been called the hidden language of the soul ... a universal form of non-verbal communication. The same dance may be interpreted in many different ways, and can impact each person who views it on a personal level.
This current endeavor of Dance Elite* is not a totally "new" concept. The Movement directly coincides with the company's ongoing Dance Outreach Project, which provides quality entertainment to childcare centers, mental health facilities, and other organizations that do not normally have access to such. Another goal of the outreach mission is to encourage creativity and artistic growth in youth through exposure to music and dance. The project even provides an outlet for those of any age who are gifted with a talent in the arts, giving these individuals an opprtunity to perform with the company.
Fallon is especially excited as The Movement and Dance Outreach projects are revving up simultaneously with the production of his first music video, which will feature the company's theme song. The song will reach large audiences and all demographics as it will be able to be viewed online globally. Plans are also in the works to take the company on an east coast tour this year.
If interested in learning more about these projects or bringing Dance Elite* to your church, facility, or event .... contact Fallon at (814) 490-8781 or Melanie Augenstein, Managing Director at (814) 440-5979.

Out and About: A story of mice and men -- 'The Rat Pack' begins
Have you got Frank Sinatra under your skin? When you listen to Dean Martin, is that amore? Do you think Sammy Davis, Jr. makes the world sound good? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then "The Rat Pack" at the Station Dinner Theatre may just be music to your ears. David Durst, who portrays Sinatra, crafted the show as a way to show audiences the genesis of the unique rapport that developed among the three entertainers.
"I wanted to make it less of a documentary and more of a story," said Durst. "My idea was to put somebody there who witnessed the very beginning of it at the Sands Hotel."
Hence, he created Joe Phillips, a character who serves as the audience's guide to the Rat Pack's glory days. The older version, played by Barry McAndrew, speaks directly to the audience, reminiscing about the shenanigans he observed in the 1960s.
Dancer Brett Fallon portrays the younger Joe, whose fancy footwork earns him a job on the strip.
Durst, Paul Urbanowicz (Dino), and John Burton (Sammy) will not imitate the singers through their performances. "Our goal was never to be impersonators of the Rat Pack but to showcase the music," Durst said.

National Tap Dance Day at Betts Park Today
Dancers and non-dancers alike are invited to head down to Betts Park this Friday, May 21, from 4 to 9 p.m.. to celebrate Warren's Second Annual National Tap Dance Day! Following the success of last year's premiere event, which was founded by Erie native, Brett Fallon, director of Dance Elite* Performance Company, the celebration once again returns and promises to be even greater this year. Organized by Starlite Events by Design, under the management of Melanie Augenstein, additional performers and activities have been added to the line-up. Because of the downtown renovations at Soldiers and Sailors Park, festivities have been moved to the Clifford Betts Pavilion located across from the Bocce Courts at Betts Park.
For those of you unfamiliar with its origin, National Tap Dance Day is a celebration of tap dancing as an American art form, and was officially signed into American law in 1989. This holiday is not just celebrated in the U.S., but in many other countries as well. Events in recognition of National Tap Dance Day are often held in late May, as this appropriately coincides with the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, a significant contributor to the art of tap dance.
Once again this year, Dance Elite's Brett Fallon will be entertaining the crowd with his upbeat tap dancing and more. Students of Linda Dies' Dance Unlimited and Dance Express Company will be performing a variety of impressive tap dance selections. Singer Amber Cooke will return with her phenomenal vocal pieces, and she may even decide to put on her own dancing shoes. Other featured performers will include Carla Fleming of Lake Erie Belly Dance, students of Studio K of Kane, and more.
In addition to the performances, Linda Dies' and Brett Fallon will lead interactive tap dance demonstrations that will make people of all ages want to get out of their seats and join in the fun. Who knows?? ... They may even quiz you with some of their tap trivia! There will also be organized hands-on craft activities for the kids.

Brett Fallon of Dance Elite- comes out from behind the curtain for 'All That Jazz' at the Station. Preview by Karen Rene Merkle Contributing writer
Brett Fallon says his dancing is about "collaboration, not competition," so it's only right that he should join forces with the Station Dinner Theatre for the latest leg in his dance company's journey.
It was only about a year ago that Fallon recommitted himself to the concept of Dance Elite-. Originally formed in 2005, the company had spent a couple of years on the back burner while Fallon worked throughout the area -- primarily in Warren -- as an independent dance instructor.
But those years confirmed to the 27-year-old Erie native that, as much as he loved teaching, he was still a performer at heart. The production "All That Jazz" is the culmination of his rededication to the stage, a dance down memory lane being presented for one show only, this Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Station.
This production comes on the heels of Dance Elite-'s appearance two weeks ago at an open-air concert in New York City's Times Square as part of Project Dance, an international movement promoting training, educational, and performance opportunities for dancers.
"We'd wanted to do a spring showcase of what we did in New York," Fallon said, and when Paul and Rae Urbanowicz of the Station invited him to perform there with a show of his own, everything fell into place.
Fallon says that while he is "the only true member of Dance Elite-," his shows are filled out with special guests representing a wide variety of dance and music styles.
In addition to his jazz and tap numbers, expect to see Carla Fleming and her Lake Erie Belly Dancers; ballroom dancers Cheri Mahovsky and Etienne Ozorak from Long's School of Dance; hip-hoppers and break dancers Sammy Evans and Darien Vincent; and jazz dancers Haeli Augenstein and Jennifer Dennehy. Singer Amber Cooke will perform classics by Aretha Franklin and others.
"I'm all about community performance," Fallon said.
His troupe has appeared at private parties and senior living centers all around the region, and his therapeutic dance programs and dance outreach into all areas of the community are a large part of the Dance Elite- story (as is the asterisk that's part of its name).
But this is his chance to get back on the stage and share dance as a performer.

Dance Elite Looking For Skilled Performers
Back in 2005, Erie native Brett Fallon, had a vision …… he envisioned sharing his passion for dance with individuals whose life situations, for whatever reason, did not allow them to experience this magnificent form of art. Having spent most of his life on stage, performing with Little’s Jazz Kids Dance Company, Dafmark Dance Theatre, and Erie Playhouse Youtheatre Showstoppers, Brett recognized that there were specific demographics unable to enjoy such quality musical entertainment. In addition, he was surrounded by fellow entertainers, who like himself, were searching for outlets to hone their performance skills. It was a combination of these factors which inspired Brett to take action …. thus, DANCE ELITE* was formed!
Brett, who serves as the artistic director of DANCE ELITE*, possesses an extensive background in the art of dance, having studied at Little’s Dance Studio, Dafmark Dance Theatre, PA Governor’s School, Point Park University in Pittsburgh, and under scholarship with Luigi of New York City. Trained in jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, modern, and folk/character, Brett earned his degree in dance with a concentration in jazz from Point Park. Brett has additionally trained with Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet, and has performed professionally at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Erie Playhouse, and Struther’s Library Theatre in Warren. He has also performed with Lake Erie Ballet, Erie Dance Consortium, Pick of the Crop Ballet, Common Ground Theatre Company, and the Allegheny Regional Ballet. Brett’s experience includes choreographing for Point Park University, Little’s Dance Studio, Linda Dies’ Dance Unlimited and Dance Express Company, and Allegheny Regional Theatre Experience, winning many awards for his work.
Brett’s DANCE ELITE* Performance Company has actively pursued its mission of providing quality song and dance performances to targeted, diverse audiences, traveling to various venues in the tri-state area with self-contained shows … complete with professional lighting, music, special effects, and hand-designed costumes. In fulfilling its purpose for entertainers, the company remains flexible, offering seasoned performers artistic freedom to share their talent while promoting themselves for their own benefit. Over time, while performing at these venues, Brett recognized a need to further incorporate dance into the lives of the individuals he had previously entertained. In response to the noted demand, Brett developed two additional branches for his company: The Dance Therapy Project and The Dance Outreach Project. These projects now serve as the “heart” of DANCE ELITE*, and continue to grow and expand.
DANCE ELITE* is a major advocate for mental health awareness in our society, as Brett firmly believes dance therapy can help get patients on the path to a better state of mind. Through DANCE ELITE*’s Dance Therapy Project, Brett has formed therapeutic dance programs at Erie Mental Health Association, Warren State Mental Hospital, St. Mary’s East adult daycare, and provides numerous interactive performances and dance classes at senior centers throughout Erie and Warren counties.
Being both a school teacher and dance instructor, Brett realizes the benefits of teaching the art of dance to others, including the younger generation. He has taught classes at Warren County Summer Music School, formed dance classes at the Warren YMCA, and directed children’s summer dance camps in both Erie and Warren counties. Through DANCE ELITE*’s Dance Outreach Project, Brett has integrated musical dance programs and workshops into the curriculum of childcare learning centers and schools. He has also helped develop and promote local performers through their participation in various outreach programs. Warren’s First National Tap Dance Day was formed as a result of the Dance Outreach Project, as was the development of a Dance/Theatre Department at Erie’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club. The company's goal is to provide youth exposure to dance, giving them a creative outlet.
2010 promises to be an exciting year for DANCE ELITE* as the company presents brand new shows, and ultimately will travel to New York City on April 16-18 to participate in Project Dance. Project Dance® is a movement of dancers seeking to positively impact culture through artistic integrity. The goal is to see every dancer nurtured to their fullest human potential for their own well-being and their contribution to the world. Participants will receive training, education, and performance opportunities, including an amazing open concert in Times Square. In alignment with DANCE ELITE*’s mission, Brett is pleased to be taking his company to this one-of-a-kind event, as he has been a soloist / choreographer for Project Dance previously.

5/29/09 - Warren's First National Tap Dance Day Hosted by Dance Elite*
Warren Times Observer
National Tap Dance Day may not be on many calendars, but an event, to be held in celebration, focuses on dancing for a good cause. Warren's First National Tap Dance Day, organized by Brett Fallon of the Dance Elite* company, Jenn Scalise, and Melanie Augenstein of Starlite Events by Design, is what Fallon describes as "an evening of tap dancing" ... all to benefit Golden Living-Kinzua's fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. The event, to be held at 6 p.m. Friday on the stage in Soldier's and Sailor's Park, will be "relaxed and informal" with performances by Fallon, Amber Cooke of Dance Elite*, B rennen Cooper of Slippery Rock University, and performers from the All County Musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Performers from the Struther's Library Theatre's ARTE program will be in attendence as well. There will also be tap history and trivia and a crafts table for children. Audience participation is welcome, and Fallon is looking for people to improvise. Kids will also be welcomed onto the stage for "mini-tap lessons." All in all, Fallon sees this as a chance to get back to the roots of tap, which are not all on the stage. "The heritage of great tap came from ships and city corners," Fallon said. "This is how tap started." The event also honors what Fallon wanted to do with his dance company. "I started the company to take professional dance to people that wouldn't normally see it," he said. This especially applies to children. "A lot of kids who are interested never took tap," Fallon said. Fallon sees this as an opportunity to present dance to the community and show that dance is not just for the "elite". "This is the reason why I started Dance Elite*", Fallon said, "To get dance out there. To get dance to the community." Warren's Tap Dance Day starts at 6 p.m. Friday. Hot dogs and drinks will be served for a donation. All proceeds go to the Alzheimer Association's Memory Walk. A representative from Warren County Summer Music School will also be on hand with information.

12/31/09 - Dance Elite* Brought Holiday Cheer to Many This Holiday Season
Dance Elite* Performance Company, under the direction of Brett Fallon, spread yuletide joy to people of all ages with their amazing "Christmas Spectacular 2009" holiday show. Throughout the months of November and December, Brett and company members danced and sang their way into the hearts of hundreds of spectators who were fortunate enough to witness the talent of these outstanding performers. Crowds enjoyed various song and dance styles, including jazz, tap, lyrical, ballroom/swing, acro, hip-hop and breaking. Traveling to various venues in northwestern PA and southwestern NY, Dance Elite* brought a spectacle of a show featuring professional lighting, glittery costumes, special effects, and of course, everyone's favorite Christmas carols. Staying true to their mission of bringing quality musical performances to those who may not have the opportunity to experience such entertainment, Dance Elite* performed at a wide array of venues including mental health facilities, nursing homes, churches, schools, senior and childcare centers, craft festivals, private clubs and dinners, shopping malls, and more.
As part of the company' s Dance Therapy Project, Brett and fellow performers provided a stimulating and interactive performance for spectators at Erie's Mental Health Association and Warren State Hospital. Individuals were encouraged to take part in the show by clapping and dancing along with the entertainers. Seniors at St. Mary's East, Niagara Village, and Independence Court in Erie as well as the Senior Center, Warren Manor, and Cambridge Home in Warren also got into the Christmas spirit by singing along and tapping their feet to the rhythm of familiar holiday carols.
Brett was pleased to share his love of dance with local youth by bringing his holiday show to facilities including Tutor Time and the Boys and Girls Club of Erie. The impact of the company's Dance Outreach Program was apparent as children of all ages were eager to demonstrate their own dance moves at the end of the show.
Dance Elite* Performance Company was honored to be a featured act at Erie's 25th Annual Festival of Trees, a fundraiser for St.Vincent's Hospital. The company performed their full-length show, complete with dancers, breakdancers, and singers at this popular event. Another noteworthy performance was the company's two-hour show at Chautauqua Mall, which was a benefit for Infinity Performing Arts, an organization advocating art awareness in the Jamestown, New York region.
Holiday crowds were also entertained at Millcreek Mall, Conewango Club's Santa Brunch, Warren's Old-Fashion Christmas Walk, and Victorian Christmas Celebration in Westfield, New York. Without a doubt, one of the most popular acts of the show was Brett's full-costumed performance of "Santa's Gonna Rock and Roll". Other crowd-pleasers included dances to Transiberian Orchestra, Jing-a-Ling, and Run, Run, Rudolph.

10/20/08 - Brownies Earn Try Its
Warren Times Observer
Brownie Troop 30906 recently participated in a day of fun at Grace United Methodist Church. The girls worked on several projects that helped them earn Try-It badges. They had a great time decorating shirts, pants and headbands, and they prepared their own lunch of taco pizza, baked apples and a fizzy fruit fun drink.
Brett Fallon visited with a donation of a "bedazzler" and shared in their lunch experience. He also donated a child's sewing machine so the Scouts can earn their Sew It Badge. Assisting the girls were leaders Kingsley Reese and Jennifer Oliphant with volunteer Jessie Smalley.
The girls worked on four of seven Try-It badges planned for the day: Make-It-Eat-It, Manners, Art to Wear and Safety Sense. It was a great way to spend a non-school day.
